Job Title: Data Editor and translator

Reports to: Senior Data Editor

Location: Tokyo area, Japan

Hours of Work: Casual (7 hours per week on average)

JOB PURPOSE (SO WHAT’S YOUR NEW ROLE ABOUT?)

Stats Perform are looking for a Japanese speaking casual data editor to join the editorial team that supports DAZN and Stats Perform in Japan. The role will be based in the Tokyo area.

As a member of the data editorial team you will use your extensive sports knowledge in combination with the Opta database to produce facts and stats packs for commentators and production staff, as well as translating articles from English to Japanese for websites.

This is an entry-level opportunity for people seeking to work in the rapidly growing sports data industry. The role will require understanding English written documents and Japanese writing skill.

 
HERE’S A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT YOU’LL DO (NOT ALL OF IT, JUST THE MOST IMPORTANT STUFF)

  • Produce and check editorial facts & commentator packs.
  • Answer editorial requests during the week from production staff and commentators.
  • Translate English written facts and articles to Japanese.


DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS (DO YOU HAVE THESE DESIRABLES?)

  • Ability to read English written documents. Speak and write fluently in Japanese.
  • A broad knowledge of European football, mainly English Premier League, Spain, France, Italy.
  • Knowledge about American sports is also desirable.
  • Ability to produce data-focused content to a high standard and work to tight deadlines. Accuracy is paramount.
  • Understanding of how raw data can be turned into compelling insight and sharable content.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to the changing demands of the role.
  • Must be able to work in a team and be prepared to learn on the spot and use initiative.
  • Patience, common sense and the ability to learn quickly are key attributes to this role.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technology is vital.
  • Ability to fit the needs of football schedules, so evening and weekend shift work are to be expected.
