1996
The Opta brand is first associated with the Premier League through the launch of a ranking system, The Opta Index. This was seen on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.
2002
Aidan Cooney's Sportingstatz business purchases the assets of Opta from BSkyB. Current senior members of the operational management team all transfer to the new business.
2005
Opta opens its German operation.
2006
Current collection methodology adopted for football incorporating x/y co-ordinates and time coding with live collection by two people, plus a checker.
Opta opens its Italian operation.
2007
Opta purchases a stake in a Spanish business, Geca Sport.
2009
Opta opens its French operation.
2010
Opta opens its Leeds office as the centre for rugby data collection.
2011
Opta opens offices in New York to service Major League Soccer and in Sydney to build on its market leading rugby presence in the northern hemisphere.
2012
Appointed by The ECB as official data providers to English cricket.
The OptaPro brand launches.
Opta purchases a 15% stake in Xeatre.
Opta opens its South American operation in Montevideo, Uruguay.
